Has anyone got any tips for helping left handed people grasp the basics of orientation please?? I am currently working with a lady who is struggling to put the two aspects together, she can sometimes do the palms facing, but then gets herself confused when adding the pointing aspect, which is obviously then causing inaccurate performance of the signs. I have tried to sign to her using my left hand as my working hand, and we have spent a lot of time just performing handshapes and orientation with a flat hand. She also said that she finds it difficult to follow the pictures in the book as they are "cack handed" to her, so i am taking a small mirror on my next visit to see if that might help. Any help would be gratefully received as I am finding that I have at least one left handed person on the courses I have taught, and they have all struggled to grasp the basics. Thanks in advance.

Hi Alison,
I think what you have done so far is all you can keep doing. You say that the lady is having trouble understanding orientation, I would keep going over this with her, demonstrating it with both hands (not just left hands or right hand)
Regarding the illustrations in the manuals explain to her that these are there as an extra clue not to learn the sign from she needs to be following he descriptions not the pictures.
Good job so far though Alison keep it up.
Best Wishes
Sarah
