Hi Everyone :-) I'm Sharon and have been a Signalong Tutor since 2001. I'm glad to see that a few of uyou are due to start classes soon; I am sure you will find signalong a great benefit. I have been working with children and adults with special needs for 15 years and am passionate about communication and the benefits of signing. I live in Plymouth and run courses over 2 days once a term at school and whenever requested elsewhere as I am happy t o travel and love meeting new people and helping to give them the skills to communicate more effectively with their families, peers or clients. I have a son who is in the Royal Marines and due back from his latest tour in 2 weeks; thank goodness and a daughter who is soon to be 21! Glad it's spring and the evenings are getting lighter. happy Signing :-)

I'm Laura and I'm in magnificent Norfolk too. How odd. I think someone should look into why Norfolkers are interested in signing...

;D Welcome to all the newbies. We're open to suggestions about the website, and if there are issues that you'd rather discuss off-forum please email us. You can find the appropriate person on the contact page.
Also, why not come and see us when we've got an exhibition inyour area. We can put information on our website, and in our catalogue but you really need to see and hold the resources to fully appreciate the wonder of Signalong!

I'm live near Chorley in Lancs and work in a special school as a TA at ks4. Signalong is being promoted in our school we introduce a new sign each week in assembly and all pupils are encouraged to use name signs. I use signalong within the children's drama group i run and more recently we have been using it in sunday school encouraging church to incorporate signing into worship (children's hymns) This morning the 4 children sang a song "faith as small as a mustard seed" they demonstrated at the front and the congregation were encouraged to join in I love signing x

Hi Im Sarah and I've just joined. My son who is 3 has some delayed speech. Have seen the speech therepist who has said they wont diagnoise him till he is 3 and half or four but seems like he probably has Verbal Dispraxia. They have taught me a couple of the signalong signs but now dont want to see him again.
He has also just started nursery, who I have spoken to about his speech so they are aware of the problem however got a note in his reading book today stating that I should encourage him to say the name of stuff and not just make noises and that I should praise him when he does say it. Umm think I do that already, they didnt seem interested when I mentions the signs.
Anyway think I have babbled enough lol ;D

Hi Katherine,
Welcome to the forum. Pleased to see that the school is encouraging Signalong.
Well done for taking it out of the school - the more people see that it's a valid form of communication the better. By the way, don't forget that if you're stuck for a sign, you can always ring us and we'll describe it over the phone to you (you can email as well)
Best wishes
Mike

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum.
It's a shame that the nursery doesn't approve of signing - that's going against the trend. Does your little boy like music and nursery rhymes? If so why not get the Sign a Song nursery rhyme dvd and show it to them? The kids would love it and your little boy wouold have a head start on the others.
I would agree that you should encourage him to say the words if he can, but it's important to praise whatever attempts he makes at meaningful communication while repeating back to him the correct word and/or sign. If communication's difficult for him, he will need all the help and support he can get.
Good luck
Mike

Thank Mike
Im going to have a word with the nursery teacher tomorrow. Just more annoyed by the tone of what she put. It was as if i wasnt do anything for him when in fact I'm trying to do the best for him.
The few signs he has been taught he is trying to say the word so I know that this is a great method for him. Just wish they were more supportive.
I've looked on your site and there seems to be loads of trainers in my area so will see how much it is to do a course (Im in Hillingdon and very close to Hayes)
